A coastal scene. High cliffs at the ocean’s edge. This work uses value-layered washes, one upon another. The sky is dry brushed creating the ragged look of a brewing storm. It’s a painting based on English watercolor traditions.

New snow, pines, leafless birches, and the welcome shelter of a distant cabin make up this winter scene. This project is not quite monochromatic, but close. Wet-into-wet and dry brush, complete most of the painting. Pen work and spattering add the finish.

An abandoned house casts long, late afternoon shadows on the rural, dirt road. Late summer brings autumn changes to the trees. Textures are our focus in this painting: stippling, brush dragging, spattering and basic dry brush.

Crows work the field as the southern sun creates long shadows across the snow. The blue patterns grow longer with the solar movement. To paint this scene, we’ll use all our texturing tools with wet-into-wet: Spattering, dry brushing, and stippling. This one is a lot of fun.
